Welcome to the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. This year, SPJ celebrates its 100th anniversary as the nation’s oldest and largest advocate for First Amendment rights and the practice of ethical journalism. We are also celebrating the chapter’s 75th’s anniversary this year with our monthly events, social mixers and annual banquet and silent auction on May 6, 2009.
The Greater Los Angeles chapter was awarded a Four Star ranking in 2008 – the highest ranking by the national organization. The chapter is dedicated to honing professional skills in a changing market and keeping abreast of the important issues affecting the practice of journalism. We have been consistent advocates for transparency in government and law enforcement.
Our board of directors reflects the diversity of journalism. Any one of our board members can brief you on the benefits of SPJ membership and affiliating with the local Los Angeles chapter, which costs just $20 in addition to national dues.If you are not already a member, I certainly hope you will join SPJ and participate in our monthly events.

Dear fellow journalists:
If you are looking for an interesting place to do some writing, I would like to invite you to visit the new Paris Herald, at:
http://ParisHerald.com
We would love to hear from you. There is so much going on in the world, and I hope we have a lot to offer in the daily arena. I know your readers would love to know where to find you, again.
We are not in a position to pay anyone, just yet, but that is our plan. It all depends on the quality of the columnists and writers we are able to attract. In some respects, it’s not about the money – we’re out to make a point that real journalism by real journalists is still viable. If you’re altruistic about the role of the press, you’ll fit right in. Besides, it’s always good to see your name on a by-line.
Most cordially,
Jes Alexander, Editorial Director
The Paris Herald
