Los Angeles Times columnist Sandy Banks and professor and poet Ishmael Reed have been added to the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ panel on the media’s coverage of race while reporting crime and violence. Author and filmmaker M.K. Asante, Jr. will moderate the discussion.
The panel will be Monday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Leimert Park.
Our panelists will be:
– Celeste Fremon, writer for Witness LA, The Huffington Post and LA Weekly
– Otto Santa Ana, researcher with the UCLA Cesar E. Chavez Center
– Sandy Banks, columnists for the Los Angeles Times; and
– Ishmael Reed, poet, author and professor.
Come at 6:30 p.m. and see a performance from singer Kalil Wilson and keyboardist Daniel Marschack. Asante and Reed will sign copies of their books, films and CDs following the discussion.
